Karen manages to call John enough times to give him a clue that leads him to... Horseshoe Island. Phoenix evacuated it after an extensive digging operation, leaving Karen's corpse behind. The gang buries Karen and decorates her building with her last painting. But the mystery is not completely over — John receives a report that "The Yellow Teeth" is dying — he visits her, and she warns him that Phoenix is looking for a staff related to his destiny and will not stop until they obtain it. She dies, and the audience sees that the staff is located in the Vatican.
